Bio for Shelly Makrugin
My yoga journey began in elementary school. I was very young and didn't understand what it was at the time. Years later, Ashtanga Yoga entered my life for a brief time. But it wasn't until I began practicing
at Yoga Santosha in Calgary that my yoga journey gained momentum.
I initially thought yoga would be a good form of exercise but slowly began to understand the true essence of the practice. For the first time
I began to feel the connection between my mind and body.
The more I practice and learn, the more I realize yoga is constantly opening me in ways beyond flexibility and strength. I've learned not to focus on whether
or not I can touch my toes or bind a pose but to focus on the fact I take the time to come to my mat and explore how to deepen the communication
between my mind and body.
Yoga led me to my teacher and mentor Rameen Peyrow and I became a certified Ashtanga Yoga Instructor.I feel truly
blessed for the experience and the wonderful people who have come into my life through yoga.
It is an honour to teach, guide and support
students through their practice.
